John Yeandle
Dog Handler and Trainer

John has had a passion for working with animals from a very early age. During his teenage years he worked at a summer camp where he cared for horses and taught horsemanship classes, and he found he enjoyed it so much he decided to make working with animals his career path. In 2002 John started becoming interested in training horses and animal behavior while working with horses on a friend's ranch in Mendocino County, and the following year he traded horses for dogs and began a career as a dog trainer at the East Bay SPCA. In the years since then he's had a few venue changes, but still continues to love working with and training dogs. John traipses around the world with Ike, an aussie mix who loves to smile, and comes home to Linda, a shy and sweet longhaired cat who graciously allows him use of the bed at night.
Ike
Canine Peer Counselor

Ike, who also responds to Ikers, Puppers, Pup, Spaz, and *expletive deleted*, is a sweet and sociable Australian Shepherd-Border Collie mix who came very close to being euthanized at three months of age before John decided to adopt him. Since then he's accompanied John everywhere – it has been jokingly suggested that the only way they'll ever be apart is for one of them to die. Ike loves people more than other animals (John's polar opposite), although he tolerates other animals very well and actually has a knack for helping socialize puppies when he's in the right mood. His favorite way of greeting people is to jump on them and smile, which can take you off guard if you're not expecting it. When Ike isn't smiling at people or at John's side he's usually sleeping, which is pretty atypical for the breed, but John doesn't complain.
