Puppy Socialization/Temperament Class
(for puppies 8-12 weeks old)

This 5 week class is designed to safely introduce your puppy to other pups within the same age range to learn appropriate greeting and play styles.  Puppies will have supervised play sessions split into groups of smaller, shy pups and larger, rambunctious pups.  In addition, every week puppies will be introduced to a variety of new things to help them become confident with the world around them.

Confidence building topics will include: body awareness, strange sounds, strange objects, things people do, crate games, drop-it, and basic grooming.  Other topics will include: house training, how to play with your pup, meeting new people, focus games, and settle down.

Puppies must have at least 1 vaccine prior to the start of class and proof of vaccination is required.  You will need to bring small, cut-up, soft treats and a toy for your pup and have your puppy wearing a flat buckle collar or harness and leash (up to 6 feet).  No choke chains or retractable leashes!  Please carry your puppy from the car inside. Puppy Obedience
(for puppies 12-18 weeks old)

This 5 week class will start your puppy on the path to becoming a well behaved member of the family.  Your pup will learn how to sit, lie down, and stand on cue, beginning stay and leash walking exercises, leave it/focus exercises, crate training, house training, how to replace the use of food lures into rewards, and how to use play as a reward.  In addition, there will be playtime integrated into the program so you can learn how to work with your pup around distractions.

Rachelle Carzino : Biography

Rachelle Carzino has been training dogs professionally since 1989 when she began her career teaching classes for Dr. Ian Dunbar’s Sirius Dog Training.  During her 27 years with Sirius Dog Training she taught puppy temperament and socialization classes, adult dog obedience classes, tricks, k9 games, and AKC Canine Good Citizen prep classes.  In addition, Rachelle has been teaching agility classes at Freilance Dog Sports since 2000 and has been participating in agility competitions since 1999 earning titles in USDAA, AKC, and CPE and championships in AKC and CPE with her own dogs.

She is a graduate of San Francisco SPCA’S prestigious Academy for Dog Trainer’s earning a Certificate in Counseling (CC) and is one of the first trainers in the United States to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA).  She is also a Certified Evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen testing program and a Certified Mentor for students of Animal Behavior College.

Rachelle’s commitment to continuing education reflects her interest in finding and using the best methods available for individual situations and she has received personal instruction from many well known professional dog trainers including Ian Dunbar, John Rogerson, Karen Pryor, Jean Donaldson, Sue Sternberg, Sharon Freilich, Nancy Gyes, and Susan Garrett to name a few.  Her philosophy is that training should be FUN for both humans and canines and she uses positive reinforcement and training techniques based on proven scientific studies.

Rachelle’s current partners are Kim, her husband of 32 years, C-ATCH, MACH Missile, a retired 14 year old Border Collie, Destiny, a 4 year old Border Collie, competing at the masters level of agility in AKC, and advanced level of agility in USDAA, and Zippity Doodah, a 19 month old Border Collie currently in training for agility and should begin competing in 2017.
